Refina ("we," "our," or "us") provides an AI-powered product recommendation application for Shopify merchants. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and protect information when you install and use Refina.

Information We Collect

Store Information

When you install Refina, we access and store the following information from your Shopify store:

• Product catalog data: Product titles, descriptions, variants, attributes, prices, and images
• Store details: Your shop domain and store name
• Application usage: Recommendation requests, query data, and interaction logs

Purpose: This information is necessary to analyze and enrich your product catalog and generate personalized recommendations for your customers.

Refina Application Performance Data

We automatically collect data related to Refina's performance and usage:

• Request timestamps and response times
• Error logs and system performance metrics
• Feature usage statistics

Purpose: To monitor Refina's performance, identify technical issues, and improve service reliability.

Note: We only collect data related to Refina's operation. We do not monitor or collect general store performance data unrelated to the application.

Information We Do Not Collect

Refina is designed to operate without requiring customer personal information. We do not collect, process, or store:

• Customer names, email addresses, or contact information
• Customer payment or financial information
• Customer purchase history or order details
• Customer browsing behavior outside of direct interactions with Refina

Third-Party Data Processing

AI Processing (Google Gemini)

To generate product recommendations and explanations, we transmit your product catalog data to Google's Gemini AI service. This processing occurs in accordance with Google Cloud's Data Processing and Security Terms.

What is sent: Product information (titles, descriptions, attributes, specifications)
What is NOT sent: Customer personal information, payment data, or order history
Data retention by Google: Subject to Google Cloud's data processing terms

Infrastructure and Hosting

Our application infrastructure is hosted on Cloudflare. Data is stored in accordance with Cloudflare's data processing and security standards.

How We Use Information

We use the information we collect solely to:

1. Generate AI-powered product recommendations and explanatory reasoning
2. Operate, maintain, and improve Refina's functionality
3. Monitor performance and diagnose technical issues
4. Provide customer support and respond to inquiries
5. Ensure security and prevent abuse

We do not:

• Sell or rent your data to third parties
• Use your data for advertising or marketing purposes unrelated to Refina
• Share your data except as described in this policy or as required by law

Data Retention and Deletion

Active Use: While you use Refina, we retain your product catalog data and usage logs to provide the service.

After Uninstallation: Upon uninstalling Refina, your data is automatically deleted within 30 days, except where retention is required for legal compliance or legitimate business purposes.

Data Deletion Requests: You may request immediate deletion of your data at any time by contacting support@refina.app. We will process deletion requests within 30 days.

Data Protection and Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information:

• Encryption in transit using TLS/SSL protocols
• Encryption at rest for stored data
• Access controls limiting data access to authorized personnel only
• Regular security assessments and updates
• Secure backup procedures

While we strive to protect your information using commercially reasonable safeguards, no method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure.

GDPR and Data Subject Rights

If you or your customers are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or Switzerland:

• Data Controller/Processor Relationship: You are the data controller for any customer data; Refina acts as a data processor for product catalog data.
• Your Rights: You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict processing, or export your data.
• Exercising Rights: Contact support@refina.app to exercise any of these rights.
• Legal Basis: We process data based on our legitimate interest in providing the service and fulfilling our contractual obligations to you.

CCPA and California Privacy Rights

If you are a California resident, you have the right to:

• Know what personal information we collect and how it is used
• Request deletion of your personal information
• Opt-out of the sale of personal information (note: we do not sell personal information)

International Data Transfers

If you are located outside the United States, your information may be transferred to and processed in countries where our service providers operate. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place for such transfers in accordance with applicable data protection laws.

Children's Privacy

Refina is intended for use by businesses and is not directed to individuals under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

Notification of Changes: If we make material changes, we will notify you by email to the address associated with your Shopify store and/or by posting a notice within the application at least 30 days before the changes take effect.

Continued Use: Your continued use of Refina after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
